Keep Slugs Short and Keyword-Focused
Aim for 3-5 words. Google uses URL keywords as a minor ranking signal, and shorter URLs are easier to share and remember. Remove filler words like "the," "and," "for."
Use Hyphens, Not Underscores
Google treats hyphens as word separators but underscores as joiners. "seo-strategy" is read as two words; "seo_strategy" is read as one. Always use hyphens for SEO URLs.
Avoid Changing Published URLs
Once a page is indexed and has backlinks, changing the slug breaks those links and loses accumulated authority. If you must change a URL, always set up a 301 redirect from the old path.
Transliterate International Characters
